# Torpor, Bad Connection Simulator for Ableton Live
## What is Torpor?
Torpor is a Maxforlive device that takes incoming audio, and makes it sound like a Skype call on a bad connection.
By gradually turning the "Samples" dial, you can cause the simulated connection to drop, which can be interesting for the end of song sections. Or manipulate the Samples dial live for glitchy, gurgling madness.
You can [purchase Torpor](https://phasorspace.gumroad.com/l/torpor) at the Phasor Space store.

## How does Torpor work?
To get started, drop Torpor onto an audio track.
Try playing a loop, and gradually turn the "Samples" dial, to cause packets to drop.
At the heart of Torpor is two ring buffers, an in-buffer and an out-buffer. Audio is fed into the in-buffer. At a periodic interval, audio is transferred in packet-sized chunks from the in-buffer into the out-buffer. If the out-buffer is not filled quickly enough, the audio signal will drop.

The effect doesn't sound quite like a bitcrusher, a tremolo, or a granular delay, but a bit different.
